CORVIAS FOUNDATION EVENT RAISES MORE THAN Than $100,000 TO SUPPORT BEYOND-THE-DOLLAR PROGRAMS

September 25, 2019

Corvias Foundation, a private charitable foundation dedicated to increasing opportunities for military families, today announced that its annual fundraising event, Tee Up Fore Our Future, raised more than $100,000 to be put towards supporting academic and career services for military-connected students. This year marks the 13th occurrence of the event, a day-long golf tournament held in Springfield, New Jersey.

“Military families experience a unique lifestyle that revolves around multiple moves, deployments and hectic schedules,” said John G. Picerne, founder of Corvias Foundation. “These obstacles can make accessing higher education more difficult, and as such, we have made it our priority to support our scholars’ endeavors and empower them in any way possible. We are incredibly grateful to all who participated in Tee Up Fore Our Future to help us continue our assistance.”

In line with its commitment to provide beyond the dollar support, Corvias Foundation ensures that students are set up for success through events such as their annual orientation for new scholars. During the orientation, students are provided with key information to help them transition into the routine of higher education and life at college. Topics include financial independence, health and nutrition, professionalism, and more. Funds raised from the golf tournament will go towards this and other similar support programs.

“We recognize the importance of providing our scholars with support that goes beyond the dollar,” said Maria Montalvo, executive director of Corvias Foundation. “Recipients not only receive financial assistance but we also welcome them into the Foundation family and provide them with tools such as a support network, mentoring and internship opportunities. We want our scholars to know we are there for them throughout their college experience and beyond. Thanks to the funds raised through Tee Up Fore Our Future, we can continue to help our scholars grow both academically and professionally.”

Present at the event were Cassie Edmonds, a Corvias Foundation scholarship alum, and her father, Col. Pete Edmonds (Ret.), who spoke at the dinner reception. In his speech, Col. Edmonds expressed his sincere gratitude towards the Foundation’s efforts to support military-connected children and students.

“I speak to you as a grateful parent and humble vet,” said Col. Edmonds. “John Picerne has made a tremendous difference…Military life is a choice made by the parents, not the children. Corvias Foundation saw that gap and serves the children.”

Since its establishment in 2006, Corvias Foundation has provided over 160 children of active-duty service members across Corvias’ 13 Army and Air Force installations with four-year college scholarships, each worth up to $50,000. In total, the organization has provided more than 450 scholarships to military spouses, children of Corvias installation-based service members, and children of Corvias employees.
