Nurturing a work environment where employees not only excel professionally but also enjoy fulfilling and healthy lives outside of work is good for employees and good for business. A healthy workplace boosts employee morale that can lead to overall job satisfaction. Recognizing the value of creating a workplace that prioritizes the health of its team members, Corvias executes this through its Wellness@Corvias program.
Benefits of Preventative Health
Big picture, preventative health care offers a wide range of benefits for both employees and employers. According to Corporate Wellness Magazine, preventive healthcare is essentially a proactive approach to sustaining one's health and wellness. It involves activities such as routine checkups, preventive screenings, vaccinations, and educational initiatives geared towards encouraging lifestyle choices that promote overall well-being. The ultimate aim is to reduce the occurrence of chronic illnesses, improve the quality of life, and, over time, lower healthcare expenses. This approach also fosters the promotion of health-conscious behaviors, which can contribute to a more healthier and productive workforce. Here are some key advantages:
- Increased Productivity: Healthy employees who are free from chronic illness are often more focused, energetic, and productive. Preventative health care can help reduce absenteeism and presenteeism (employees being at work but not fully productive), leading to higher overall productivity, which in turn can lead to increased efficiency and output.
- Reduced Healthcare Costs: A healthier workforce tends to have lower healthcare costs. By detecting and addressing health concerns early on, preventative health care can help prevent or manage chronic health conditions, leading to fewer medical claims and lower insurance premiums, a benefit for both employer and employees.
- Improved Employee Engagement: Employees who feel that their employer cares about their well-being are more likely to be engaged and committed to their jobs. This can lead to higher retention rates and reduced turnover costs.
- Enhanced Company Culture: Organizations that prioritize wellness and preventative health care often foster a culture of well-being and care for their employees. This can enhance employee satisfaction and loyalty, morale, help attract top talent and improve the company’s reputation as an employer of choice.
- And, of course, most importantly, better employee health – important for its own sake!
The Wellness@Corvias Program
Corvias understands that supporting employees inside and outside of work is core to being a best place to work. The Wellness@Corvias program is a testament to this commitment, aiming to improve the health of its employees. Wellness@Corvias is a partnership between Corvias and Wellworks designed to incentivize employees and their spouses to practice preventative medicine and encourage participants to make their health a priority. Let's explore how Corvias is achieving this:
Employees receive encouragement to attend primary care provider (PCP) visits annually and get biometric screenings. These visits and screenings may help prevent disease by identifying risk factors and coordinating and managing chronic disease care for a better quality of life. Employees who complete this task are eligible for the following:
- A credit off their medical premium
- Wellness PTO day
- $25 gift card
- Chance to win a health-related prize, such as a stationary bicycle or healthy meal preparation kits
Wellness@Corvias makes a significant impact on the company's workplace culture and employee satisfaction. For the 2022-2023 program, one in every five eligible employees participated. Five of the employees, chosen at random, received a wellness prize. (Of those winners, four chose the indoor bike, while another team member chose a 12-month meal kit delivery service).
Employee Testimonials
“I would like to thank Corvias for always looking for ways for us to stay healthy. All I had to do was something we should all do each year—get an annual physical,” said Melissa Richards, one of the employee winners and an assistant resident manager for Corvias Property Management at Fort Meade. Richards’ advice to other employees is, “Make sure to take advantage of this opportunity next year.”
Another winner, Andrea Ruffin, said, “It is wonderful we had the opportunity to win such great gifts that can contribute to our wellness. I recently restarted my wellness journey, and my new indoor bike is sure to help me get to my goal! Thank you again for this awesome gift and opportunity!” Ruffin is a leasing consultant at Fort Sill, another Corvias Property Management site for military housing.
Corvias’s Wellness@Corvias program shows how a company can create a healthier workplace for its team members. Happy, healthy employees are more engaged, productive, and likely to stay with the company, benefiting both the organization and its workforce. In alignment with its core principles of prioritizing wellness, Corvias places a significant emphasis on employee health, solidifying its position as a best place to work.
